Using a condom well

External condom: use a new one for every sexual act (oral, vaginal or anal) and put it on before any contact. Check the expiry date and that the wrapper is undamaged, and open it carefully, without teeth or anything sharp. Put it on while the penis is erect and before any contact with the mouth, pinch the tip to leave room, and unroll it to the base. Use a water- or silicone-based lubricant and avoid oil-based ones (petroleum jelly, body or cooking oils) with latex, as they raise the risk of it tearing. When you finish, hold it at the base to take it off: it is single use.

Internal condom: put it in before you start, following the instructions on the packet, with the condom inside and the outer ring outside covering the entrance. Guide the penetration so the penis does not go in at the side instead of inside the condom. Do not use an internal and an external condom at the same time: the friction can make them tear or slip.

If it tore, slipped or was used incorrectly, consider getting tested for STIs and seeing a professional if you need further prevention.
